What Is Vibration Therapy?
Vibration Therapy is a form of therapy that uses a whole-body vibration machine to enhance physical health and well-being. It was first used in the Russian Space program to assist astronauts in increasing their muscle strength and enhancing bone density while in space. So, how does vibration therapy work? In Vibration Therapy, the whole-body vibration plate transmits repetitive, vibratory pulses that stimulate the nervous system to produce muscle stimulus, exercising the muscles. At CORE we utilize the VibePlate systems, a stable, stationary vibration platform that reproduces only vertical vibrations with no wobble, side-to-side, or circular movement. Studies show that vertical vibrations are the most effective type of vibrations as it most closely simulates real-world conditions and the effects of gravity, without putting additional stress on the body.
During conventional exercise, typically only 40-60% of your muscles are being stimulated, but when using a fitness vibration machine, such as VibePlate, almost 100% of your body’s muscular system is exercised. Deeper lying muscles, such as postural muscles, particularly benefit from whole-body vibration therapy. These elevated rates of muscle contractions also help to stimulate lymph gland activity, blood circulation, and encourage the production and release of hormones such as Human Growth Hormone and Serotonin.
Vibration Therapy Benefits
Are Vibration Plates Safe?
The effects of vibrations on the body have been studied for decades, and modern whole-body vibration machines are considered beneficial and safe for most individuals. Vibration therapy is generally contraindicated for individuals with the following conditions: pregnancy, serious cardiovascular disease, pacemaker, recent infections or surgeries, acute hernia, severe diabetes, epilepsy, tumors, severe migraines, recently placed pins or plates, acute thrombosis, vertigo, recent hip or knee replacements. We always recommend you consult with your primary care physician before starting any new exercise program or modality.
