5 Reasons Pilates Is A Good Workout For You

Young, old.  Weak, strong.  Tall, short.  It doesn’t matter what your body is built like or how much you’ve worked out in the past, Pilates is for everyone.  Here are five simple reasons that Pilates is the best workout for you.

A Strong Core
Pilates helps develop a center of the body, flattening the abdominals while strengthening the back.  This not only improves your posture but helps make every movement more efficient.  When the frame of the body is supported by a strong core, it allows the neck and shoulders to relax.

Increased Flexibility
While Pilates won’t ask as much of you as yoga will, the flexibility and flow you reach is a more realistic goal.  It helps you strive for a safe increase in range of motion and stretch of muscles.

Strength Without Bulk
Pilates is all about functional fitness.  The muscles that you develop are long and lean.  The toned muscles are useful and while not for show, definitely make you look good.

Full Body
While Pilates does improve core strength, it also works out every other muscle in the body.  No part of the body is neglected during a Pilates workout.  The balance you obtain extends beyond the body and to the spirit, emphasizing proper breathing and in turn helping to control stress.

Adaptable to Any Fitness Level
The low impact level of fitness means that any body type can handle the work out.  It doesn’t matter if it is your first time working out or if you’re a pro-athlete, the workouts can be modified to suit your needs.  There are over a thousand possible exercises and modifications to choose from and instructors are able to understand individual’s specific needs and design each workout accordingly.

If you’re looking for a workout that will challenge your whole body with minimal impact and maximum outcome, Pilates is for you.

  1. I had never tried Pilates before coming to CORE and I LOVE it. Shara has incorporated Pilates into a few of my training sessions and I was able to do a Pilates session with Dagmar as well. I had no idea that a physical workout could be so good for your mind. Every time I get to workout with Pilates i leave CORE feeling relaxed and rested, even though I’ve pushed myself physically. Pilates brings me an inner peace I didn’t know I was lacking! I look forward to being able to join a class in the near future.

  2. And we love having you at CORE Katie!
