Preparing For A Wedding

Three months before my wedding I made the decision to hire Ruth as my personal trainer.   My goal was to tone and lose 5-10 pounds before my big day.   This was my first experience with a personal trainer and I was seeking direction and knowledge about making the most of my limited wedding phototime at the gym.   I was impressed with Ruth’s professional and initial consultation.  She laid out a plan that included my diet and exercise regimen.   Ruth has extensive knowledge in every area of the body and what exercises target those trouble spots.  She is creative in designing a work out that is specific to your needs.  Her workout sessions are always different and challenging.  Ruth does an excellent job explaining the exercise and will make the slight corrections necessary to enhance and ensure it is done properly.    Ruth always presents to me our workout in writing at the end of our session.  This makes it very easy for me to repeat the work out on my own.   I feel Ruth is committed to working with me to achieve my fitness goal.  On my wedding day I felt amazing and looked toned and was energetic.   I see more definition and it is encouraging.  Working with Ruth on and off over the past 18 months has done more for my body than the years I spent in the gm on my own with no direction.   I have continued to hire Ruth after the wedding because she is fun, personal, professional and by far, and most importantly, knowledgeable in personal fitness.

Dear Ruth:

Having you as my personal trainer for three years changed my life! At first, I hired you because I thought you could help me to simply look good in my wedding dress. However, you taught me the real value of a healthy lifestyle. I followed your direction on diet and exercise to the letter. In just a few months my body, mind and spirit were all transformed into a much better looking and feeling package.

img004.jpgFor the first time in my life I was comfortable in my skin. I had lost the extra weight and gained muscle, good health, glowing skin and a wonderful outlook on life. I wore a bikini with pride on my honeymoon. More importantly, my new healthy lifestyle will hopefully prevent heart disease and other hereditary health problems for which  I am at risk as an African American woman.

Unfortunately, I’ve now moved too far away to personally train with you on a regular basis. I can’t believe how hard it’s been to find another trainer in my new community who can match the level of expertise, personal care and counsel you gave to me as a client. You are the best!

Thanks for all of your time and attention. I am your client and friend for life.

Sports Specific

000_0379.JPGI have been a competitive soccer player for 30 years and have worked with Ruth of CORE Personal Training & Pilates, Inc. as my trainer for the past four.
Because of her extensive education, training and experience, she has been a terrific resource for me and has kept me playing through various physical challenges resulting from injury or overuse.  Her knowledge and experience as a Pilates instructor is also invaluable since Pilates is a wonderful addition to my workout regimen.

As we’ve worked together over the years, Ruth has designed programs for me that allow me to play 2 to 3 games per week as well as prepare for and compete in 2 to 3 national tournaments each year.  In July of 2009 I competed in The Veteran’s Cup, the annual national tournament of the United States Adult Soccer Association.  It was held in Lancaster, MA and my team, NOVA WFC, won the gold medal in the women’s over-55 age bracket.  We played five ninety-minute games over five days beating teams from Hawaii, Michigan, Texas and Massachusetts and even as the oldest player on the team, I was able to play at a high level without injury.  Ruth was one of the first people I called immediately after we won the tournament.  Her focus and planning to get me to where I needed to be for such a competition was what made the difference for me and I wanted to say “thank you” as I was wearing my medal!

As I age, I encounter situations unfamiliar to me with regard to my body’s changing needs and reaction to exercise.  Ruth’s comprehensive knowledge and experience allow me to continue playing a game I love and that is extremely important to me.

Pilates/Post-Rehab

Dr. Hadi Fathalikhani
Physical Therapist, since 1986 Co-Owner of Lakeridge Physical Therapy, PT, MBA, DPT

I became acquainted with Ruth Gordon of CORE Personal Training & Pilates, when she came to work as a professional fitness trainer in the Gold gym that is adjacent to our physical therapy office.  Through the years of working with Ruth, I have always felt total confidence in her ability to train any pre or post-rehabilitative client that we have referred to her. Ruth takes a personal and direct approach to meeting an individual’s health needs. Because recovery does not always end with PT, Ruth was able to assist many of my patient’s to return to their pre- injury level of activities. I personally worked with Ruth in Pilates to maximize my core strength and back stability and I have made significant improvement in a matter of a few short weeks. I will tell anyone who needs personal trainer to see Ruth Gordon and I will not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

When I first started training with Ruth, it had been many years since my prior personal training experience.  Since having been a regular gym participant, I had been in a car accident that left me with poor balance and poor muscle tone.  While five months of physical therapy had begun to restore my range of motion and pain relief, it was not until I began training with Ruth on a regular basis that I felt that my mobility and flexibility returned.  I also began taking Pilates Reformer class with Ruth.  The class has helped my balance and sense of accomplishment in dealing with the physical healing of my body.

I have been training with Ruth Gordon on and off for the past 11 years.  I first began training with her at a gym.  And, most recently began home training with her in 2007.

Ruth is a person who does not let you give up on yourself.  Beginning early in 2006, one of the worst periods of my life began.  My mother passed away in March of 2006.  Then in October 2006 I retired from the federal government and began working as a contractor.  Then to complete the year, my husband left me in December 2006.  I was probably the lowest I have ever been.

I began home training with Ruth mid 2007.  I had decided that it was time for me to take care of me, and to get healthy.  I guess it should be noted that I suffered with severe arthritis in both knees, but did continue to push through.  In September 2007 I saw a surgeon and he determined that I needed both knees replaced.  So, October 2007 I had my left knee replaced.  I followed-up the replacement of the left knee with having the right knee replaced in January 2008.  I knew at this time that I had to workout to ensure that I regained my strength.  I contacted Ruth, and made arrangements for her to come over and meet with my physical therapist.  He and Ruth determined the best path for me.  Also during this period, I reconciled with my husband, although living apart.  He became sick in May of 2008 and I took care of him, taking him to appointment, fixing him food and just being there.  After a surgery on July 11, 2008 he developed complications and passed away on July 16, 2008.

I have been training twice a week with Ruth since August 2008.  I still struggle with losing the weight, but I know that I am healthy and I am stronger than I have ever been.    On June 4, 2009 when Ruth measured me my BF was 36.57% and the last time it was checked on October 1, 2009 it was 28.62%.  This was a 7.95% loss of BF in a 4 month period.  This calculated to losing a total of 22.11 lbs. of BF weight.

With all the adversities that I have endured over the past 3 or 4 years it would have been very easy to crawl into a hole and not care.  But, I have been lucky enough to know Ruth, and she would never let me, or anyone do that.  Even on the days I don’t feel like working out…she is able to get me motivated.

Not only is she an awesome trainer…but I am also lucky enough to call her my friend.  I feel that anyone who is fortunate enough to be able to train with Ruth Gordon should consider themselves to be very lucky

Golf Conditioning:

golf conditioning

It could have been the Tin Man chopping wood, but it was just me trying to hit a golf ball. I had gotten so bad at golf that I hated playing.  Then one day in Pilates class, Ruth mentioned a new program: C.O.R.E. Golf Conditioning.  During the initial assessment, a Golf Pro videotaped and analyzed my swing and Ruth assessed my balance, posture, flexibility, and other important factors. Based on the results of the assessments, Ruth developed an 8 week training program designed to improve my many golfing problems.  By the end of the 8 weeks, my golf game went from “you can’t play the better courses” to “first tee shot is yours!”  I play better than ever and can drive over 200 yards.  I love playing golf more than ever.  I tell everyone I know about Ruth’s program.  I still use Ruth’s training techniques in my personal workouts at the gym and home.

Nancy Dixon

“Ruth Gordon of C.O.R.E. Personal Training & Pilates developed and administered an off-season golf conditioning and fitness program for our golf club.  The participants wildly praised the program.  Ruth was able to evaluate the various conditioning levels of the participants and organize the sessions so that each individual received maximum benefits from the program.  In their program evaluations, the participants praised Ruth for her preparation, knowledge and skill. She was particularly recognized for integrating specific golf drills with an overall fitness regimen.”
